I had the melody to this song long before the lyrics, however, when the right experience came along (losing a job) - it gave the impetus for the quiet, caring lyrics. This song represents for me the best of what relationships are about - the ability to be with one another through difficult transitions without false reassurance, but with a genuine commitment to being present with the confidence that no matter what happens, we can handle it "as long as its me.... and you..."
